Highlights at Day 1 of EmTech Hong Kong

EmTech Hong Kong opened today with a series of exhilarating sessions on new materials, virtual reality and augmented life. innovation and entrepreneurship as well as big data and artificial intelligence.

The conference was opened by Alexander Wai, Vice President (Research Development) and Chair Professor of Optical Communications, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, who spoke about the university’s achievements in innovation. The New Materials panel featured a lively discussion on how the sector is bending the rules of physics to innovate. The panel was moderated by Will Knight, Senior Editor for AI, MIT Technology Review with panellists: Donald Sadoway, John F. Elliott Professor ofMaterials Chemistry, MIT; Vivian Yam, Philip Wong Wilson Wong Professor in Chemistry and Energy, The University of Hong Kong and Kok Wai Cheah, Founder, Cathay Photonics Limited & Associate Head and Chair Professor in Physics, Hong Kong Baptist University.

The latter half of the conference feature two panels on Big Data and AI where panellists discussed the promise of AI and what it means for people as well as industries.
